There are so many good authors out there in the genre. Brian Keene, Clive Barker, Laurell K Hamilton, writes a series: Anita Blake vampire hunter, that is vampirey/werewolfy with a large dash of erotica. People either love her books or hate them lately, no in between. You should checkout HorrorLit@YahooGroups that was where I saw your question.
This is a list that covers everything Horror.
It does venture into the other realms of writing as well as movies.
We are interested in Horror authors new and old, popular and obscure. Even those we have a love/hate reading relationship with.We discuss:Clive Barker, Doug Clegg, Laurell K. Hamilton, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Brian Keene, Robert McCammon, Richard Laymon, Edgar Allen Poe, Anne Rice,John Saul, Michael Slade, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, and many more.
You might find that it is a good place to get a plethora of suggestions for new reading choices.

I have a literary recommendation I believe is the first book of a completely new sub-genre called ‘Epic Horror’ It uses the same classic elements of suspense and dread as found in many horror novels whilst drawing the reader into a sweeping saga on a grand scale akin to Lord of the Rings. The book ‘Magician, Man and Beast’ is written by a new author and several chapters can be read for free at ‘worthyofpublishing.com’
Check it out. I am sure you will enjoy it.
